Introduction to Your Rights

There are lots of situations where we need to know our rights. For example, at work; should I have a contract of employment, how many hours can my employer make me work, what about the minimum wage?

Other times where you might want to know about your rights include:

  • Dealing with the police
  • If you have a problem with something you bought
  • If you feel you were discriminated against, maybe at school or college, or at work

There are many laws to help protect your right to be treated equally regardless of age, disability, race, religion, sex or sexuality, including employment equality legislation.

You can find out more about your rights plus help and support from the Commission of Equality and Human Rights who also have a helpline you can call on 0845 604 6610

You can get more legal advice and information from the Children’s Legal Centre. Their website is: www.lawstuff.org.uk
